Renaé Reid is in her eleventh season with The Nathaniel Dett Chorale. Upon joining the chorale, she sang first and second soprano and is now a proud member of the alto section. Renaé’s love for music and singing began at a very young age and became more evident as she joined and participated in a number of different choirs in her home city of Red Deer, Alberta. Here, she was exposed to various styles of music such as: opera, classical, folk, contemporary, gospel, jazz, etc. providing her with the flexibility and versatility required to perform the eclectic repertoire of the Chorale. The most prominent of her musical experiences was with the jazz ensemble Take Note (under the direction of Lisa Ward) which attended the International Association of Jazz Educators Conference in Long Beach, California; was the feature group of The Canadian Jazz Festival held in Brandon, Manitoba; and also participated in workshops headed by Phil Mattson (which included a performance in Carnegie Hall) in New York. She is also a former member of the Spirit of Joy Gospel Choir (directed by Joy and Melissa Davis) of Toronto, ON.
Renaé currently attends McMaster University in Hamilton, Ontario and will be graduating this year with an Honours B.A. in Labour Studies and a double minor in Psychology and Sociology. She intends to go on to complete her Masters and Ph.D. In Sociology. Renaé is very pleased to be a part of The Chorale which combines her love for academia and music through educational outreach/workshops, engaging concert programs and brilliant repertoire.
