Floydd Ricketts - Tenor
This is Floydd Ricketts’ second season with The Nathaniel Dett Chorale. His studies at York University allowed him to work closely with such Canadian music luminaries as classical tenor Benjamin Butterfield, jazz vocalist Sacha Williamson, as well as conductors Dr. Lisette Canton and Karen Burke. Floydd is frequently called upon as a music director for stage musicals, and has conducted seventeen productions in London (Ontario), Toronto and New York City. He is the co-founder and a seasonal conductor for the newly formed Greater Toronto Philharmonic Orchestra. Recently, he journeyed to Rome, where he recorded the role of Longinus and Narration in the original cast recording of Emmanuel. He has been described by his peers as a proficient scorer and has arranged a number of works for mixed voices, chamber orchestra and jazz ensemble. In addition to performing with the Chorale, Floydd is also the apprentice music director at The Shaw Festival in Niagara-On-The-Lake for their 2010 season. He is the recipient of an Imasco Performing Arts Award and a Harry Jerome Award, among others.
