Workshops held prior to a concert by the Nathaniel Dett Chorale are an excellent way for concert presenters to generate a buzz, attract media attention, and increase ticket sales.
The Chorale offers a range of concert add-ons for both specialized and general interest audiences. Adding on a pre-performance chat or post-concert Q&A to a concert by the Nathaniel Dett Chorale is a wonderful way to engage the layperson more deeply in Afrocentric music, in specific concert repertoire, or in particular elements of Afrocentric history and principles. As a presenter, you may also want to partner with local schools or universities to offer education and outreach workshops for young people; partnering with local community choirs can be an excellent way to build your audience. All workshops can be extended into an in-depth residency lasting two days or longer.
A general-interest workshop can be held the day before or the day of a concert, travel time permitting. This type of workshop incorporates several elements, customized to the needs of your group: an informal lecture by Artistic Director Brainerd Blyden-Taylor, a performance of several pieces by the Nathaniel Dett Chorale, an opportunity for workshop participants to ask questions of Brainerd and the Chorale, and the opportunity for workshop participants to take part in a sing-along of Afrocentric hymns or other music suitable for community musicians.
