And Still We Sing…TreemonishaTuesday, May 29, 2012 8:00pm Join us in celebrating the 100th anniversary of North America’s first Afro-American opera, Scott Joplin’s Treemonisha. Set during the period of reconstruction, this story of racial uplift reflects the great hunger for education in African American communities after the Civil War. Never performed in Joplin’s lifetime, this brilliant work draws on both African American and 18th century operatic traditions. Featuring talented Chorale alumni in principal roles. All concerts will take place at our beautiful new venue, Koerner Hall, TELUS Centre for Performance and Learning, just west of the ROM on Bloor Street. |
