Festival Finale: Gala Emancipation Concert

The Telus Centre for Performance and Learning
Koerner Hall, 273 Bloor Street West, Toronto
2:00 pm – 4:00 pm

Don’t miss this culmination of The Toronto North Star Festival, a powerful two hour concert of Spirituals. Particularly timely in Canada’s 150th year, this concert will be a celebration of emotional spirituality and the music of freedom – music sung by freedom seekers, fugitives travelling the Underground Railroad to Glory Land, enslaved peoples who sang their freedom into existence.

This collaboration brings together the Yale Alumni Chorus on their 2017 “Spirit of Song” Tour and Toronto’s Nathaniel Dett Chorale, which has graced several prominent events honoring some of the most esteemed black luminaries including Nelson Mandela, Archbishop Desmond Tutu, Muhammad Ali and President Barack Obama.

Whether you are active in the arts – singing with a church choir, or a member of a professional ensemble – or simply appreciate the sheer unspoken joy of Spirituals and music inspired by Spirituals, this is a family-friendly Sunday afternoon concert of enlightenment that you do not want to miss!

Ticket sales end at midnight on Saturday, August 12, but tickets can still be purchased at the door. View the location map here.
